Even if a Big Decision feels like an Absolute Yes, it can be hard to say Yes, Absolutely.

Especially if the Big Decision is a true calling, a Great Truth wanting to speak through you. Then, it hardly feels like a choice at all – instead it feels like an imperative push from the soul. (And who wants to say no to that?)
Saying an Absolute Yes to the soul is not as easy as it sounds. Ask anyone who has made a risky choice—whether it’s getting married or becoming an entrepreneur or going to seminary or traveling to a distant continent to study hallucinogenic snails—and they’ll either tell you: A) “It was a hell of a hard decision,” or B) “I had to do it—it was like I had no choice in the matter.”
(Or, if they’re more confident with adventure, they might say: C) “It’s fun!” But I’m not speaking to these folks here. If you are one of these folks, please leave a comment about it so we can all benefit from your confidence mojo!)
Decisions, Decisions
The most life-changing choices are the ones we embrace with a solid Yes, Absolutely. But some Yeses are harrowing, nerve-wracking choices, even when we know in our hearts that they are absolutely the right ones to make.
These are the decisions that, when taken at the flood of opportunity and inspiration, move us down a whole new path, one that’s unfamiliar, unmapped, maybe with a few “There Be Dragons” scattered across the landscape.
Decisions like:
- Going back to school
- Changing careers
- Starting a new business
- Accepting a spiritual calling
And oh, the magic we make (and the inner chaos we face) when all of these are blended into one.

I’ve known many people who have done all four of those life-changers nearly at once. Going back to school to train for a career change that will require them to start a business in alignment with their spiritual calling.
Well, sheesh if that isn’t a lot of transition all at once. But it’s one that so many of us face when we decide to follow our hearts – or are kicked out of our comfort zones through job loss, business shifts, empty nests, or other life transitions.
Intuition: What If It’s Slow as Ketchup in an Old Glass Bottle?
Since this is Intuitopia and I generally focus on engaging with life through our intuitive senses, I’d like to say, “Trust your intuition” and be done with it. But it’s not so simple.
The Big Decisions often leave our intuition feeling as slow as can be. (Remember those old ketchup commercials where people waited and waited for the ketchup to flow? That slow. Or slower.)
In times like these, calling on someone else’s intuition can be very helpful. I can use my intuition to give you some insight into yours. I can journey for you, or use divination to coach you toward clarity.
But (not to belittle this, because it’s truly powerful to engage with another in seeking guidance) there’s something even more dramatic that you can do to reach your Yes.
Give In
Just give in.
You don’t have to do anything. You don’t have to make any choices that affect your everyday world.
All that you have to do is give in to the inner impulse, let go of the struggle, and say Yes.
The Yes doesn’t have to be followed by action right away. It may never be followed by action—because things may shift where you don’t need to take any actions at all in order to fulfill your quest.
The Yes is action enough for now.
I have strengthened my Yes, Absolutely through ceremony, through sharing with my community, through the power of coaching and healing, through my speech patterns and my patterns of prayer.
And things have come clear that before were unclear. Waters have parted that before submerged my path. Help arrived—emails from people with just the right information, profitable referrals from satisfied clients—where before it had seemed I was in a desert with no help to be found.
I’m talking about spiritual surrender here. It’s not an easy topic. It’s one of those goals you could devote your whole life to.
Saying Yes, Absolutely to the promptings of your soul truly makes the difference. The “how” doesn’t matter. The “next step” doesn’t matter.
All that matters, in this tender breathing moment, is your Yes.
Say it now.

Oooooh…juicy (and deep) topic, Harmony!
My intuition to help others has never been quicker or more responsive, but I have noticed it almost feels *absent* for me. Slower than Molasses, as my Mom would say.
Give in? Let go?
YES YES YES YES YES !!!!!
That’s what I’ve been doing with *Pure Awareness* practices, and the shift is unbelievably helpful even when the intuition is uncharacteristically silent.
Many blessings,
Nancy

Nancy, I’m loving the sound of your Pure Awareness practice. Would love to hear more! Have you written about it on your blog or over at Good Vibe U?
I really know the feeling of being at the top of my intuition game for other people… but not being able to do it for myself. It comes and goes, but it’s not frequent (thank goodness). I’m starting to notice a pattern within myself when that happens: Usually, I’m resisting something, so I’m not seeing the situation as clearly as I need to if I want to access intuitive guidance. This is when it’s great to call on someone else’s strong intuition!

Harmony, it’s not my process and it’s not necessarily new (many names for it), but one I have learned about and shared on GVU. See the “Quantum Entrainment” thread. All the links to videos and exercises, plus others contributions can be found there.
Mariëlle Duijdam and I have been doing the exercises, and have a GVU call (along with Julie Brock sharing info from the Science Behind the Secret workshop she took) planned for April 3rd. Would love to have you join us!
Many blessings,
Nancy

I love the power of YES! The Yes is action enough for now!
I know exactly what you mean Nancy! I always think “I want a coach just like me”
Tell us more about “Pure Awareness”!
By the way I used to eat that eyes chocolate that’s in the pic. Very yummy!
Just had to refresh the page to find out more:)
Nancy, I’m looking forward to that call. This process sounds so simple and fascinating! Can’t wait.
Flavia! Of course you love Yes! You are YesYesYesCoaching!
“These are the decisions that, when taken at the flood of opportunity and inspiration, move us down a whole new path, one that’s unfamiliar, unmapped, maybe with a few “There Be Dragons” scattered across the landscape.” Yes! I used to love those medieval maps with dragons and sea monsters and I always wanted to go to those places. The dragons are scary, but they’re also what tell us that here is something worth seeing and worth protecting. Slay the dragon, and there’s a cave-full of gold to be had.
Stephanie, I know what you mean about loving those old maps. In those “There Be Dragon” spots, there was always a blend of danger… and intrigue. Our inner dragons show us exactly where our own gold is. And perhaps the dragon spirits throughout the world tend to our collective gold – and not just the financial gold, but the gold that can’t be measured.

For some reason, this post got stuck in my spam folder and I just now saw it, which is appropriate because now is when I needed to see it!
While reading this, I realized that I did the opposite of what you’re saying here. I have taken action that felt like it was a way of saying yes, but behind the action was an “I don’t know,” and so the action was fitful and erratic.
It feels like such an ahhh to let the yes be enough. Disconnecting the yes from action would make it possible to settle into the yes before the action so that once you start taking action, there’s no “I don’t know.”

Ande, thanks for dropping by & commenting!
I like what you’re saying about separating the “yes” from the action. In between the two, there is a place to breathe, to be, to rest for awhile.
In fact, receiving guidance to do something is NOT the same as receiving guidance on how the heck to get it done.
We can break it down, small step by small step, and give ourselves the gift of that aaaahhh….

Ahhh, lovely post, beautifully written. I’ve been doing a lot of that spiritual surrender stuff lately myself. My whole life has transformed in the last six months, entirely for the better, and I’m learning very quickly to trust in the Universe to look after me for whatever I may need.
The trick seems to be to ask and allow, both of which are a new concept for me and for many other people. And yet that seems to be the only way it really works. So I’m working on THAT.

Anna, you’re right on about the trick here: asking and allowing. Though sometimes we’re called to work that we didn’t consciously ask for, and it’s usually a gift. When I’m called like this, my usual route is “accept and allow,” and see what happens.
(Actually, my usual route is “fight it tooth and nail, get totally exhausted, and finally give in, accepting and allowing in the end.” And that’s when the miracles occur.)
Big woohoo to you for the last six months of transformation. I love hearing that the Universe is looking after you and whatever you might need!
