Stop Being a Control Freak and Start Being an Intuitive

Are you a control freak? If you are, you’re in good company, ’cause I’ll admit it – I’m one too. A conscious, recovering control freak who can laugh at myself! (I hope you can too.)

Being a control freak can have certain advantages in business. It usually means that you pay a lot of attention to details. You really make sure you serve your clients well. No matter what, you fulfill your obligations. Chances are good that your books are in order (even if you can’t bear to glance at the bottom line).

But, despite all this, being a control freak is almost antithetical to the entrepreneurial spirit.

To be an entrepreneur is to embark on an adventure. An enterprise. Remember the mission of the good ol’ Starship Enterprise from Star Trek?

To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life forms and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

This is very similar to the mission that each of us has when we start our business. And our intuitive journeys too.

I can tell you right now, if you’re caught up in the control freak whirlwind, your enterprise will have a real hard time getting off the ground. And I can almost guarantee that it won’t reach escape velocity.

Why is this? Because risk is an inherent part of being a business owner. Risk involves not knowing the outcome of our choices. Even with strong intuition, we can’t know all the variables. Besides, if we did, we would lose out on half the fun of running our enterprises.

Risk isn’t limited to our business ventures. It’s also an inherent part of the intuitive journey. Starting with a blank slate is essential to intuitive success. And it feels really risky, too.

When consulting your intuition, you’ve got to let go of any idea you have about the outcome of your choices. You’ve got to release any concepts you have about a person or an opportunity so that you can receive your guidance clearly.

And then there comes the most challenging part of being an intuitive: Acting on your guidance.

What would happen if you stepped out of the control freak mindset… and stepped into the mindset of an Intuitive Entrepreneur? The mindset of adventure, risk, the unknown?

Actually, scratch that question. You don’t know exactly what would happen. You can use your intuitive skills to feel into the energy of each choice. But the outcomes can go way, way beyond your wildest imagination.

Give it a try. Take a risk and let your intuition speak to you. And act on what you learn. Your life work is an enterprise. Let yourself go boldly where you haven’t gone before.
